    Dave Blomquist

Head Men's Soccer Coach - Azusa Pacific University

Blomquist led the Cougars to back-to-back PacWest championships in 2018 and 2019, and the Cougars won a third PacWest title in 2021. He was awarded the PacWest Coach of the Year in all three of those years, while also being recognized alongside his assistant coach Andriy Budnyy as the DII West Region Staff of the Year in 2019. Blomquist led the Cougars to a conference-record 22 consecutive PacWest wins between the 2018 and 2019 season and over the parts of 4 seasons guided APU to a 26-2-1 conference record.

In 2019, Blomquist and the Cougars finished the regular season with an impressive 18-0-0 record en route to winning Blomquist's fourth PacWest championship and holding onto the DII No. 1 ranking for six consecutive weeks to end the regular season. The Cougar's perfect regular season is the first time in PacWest history that a team has finished with an unblemished record. Blomquist was awarded his third career PacWest Coach of the Year honor, as Azusa Pacific had three players receive DII All-American honors, five players receive DII All-West Region honors and 12 players receive All-PacWest honors. The Cougars finished the season as the No. 11 ranked team in the country.

In 2018, Blomquist and the Cougars finished the regular season 16-1-1, winning 13 games in a row including an 11-0-0 record in conference play to secure Blomquist's third PacWest championship and second conference Coach of the Year award. The Cougars hosted the West Regional where Blomquist won his first ever NCAA DII postseason game defeating top-25 ranked Cal State LA in overtime 2-1 in the second round of the West Regional. Azusa Pacific had three players receive NCAA DII All-American honors, five players receive NCAA DII All-West Region honors and nine players receive All-PacWest honors as they finished the season as the No. 12 ranked team in the country.

Blomquist coached standout defender Isaac Bawa, who was an All-American in both 2018 and 2019 and is currently under contract with the LA Galaxy II of the United Soccer League.

In Azusa Pacific's first season as NCAA Division II members in 2014, he led the team to a 14-3 overall record while winning the PacWest regular season outright with an 11-1 mark in league games. The Cougars earned a host spot and the No. 2 seed for the NCAA West Region postseason championships. They concluded the year ranked 19th in the nation with seven players earning all-conference honors. For his outstanding efforts from the bench, Blomquist was named the league's Coach of the Year.

Blomquist guided the 2013 Cougars to a tie for first place in the Pacific West Conference standings with a 10-2 mark in league play, the fourth season in the past five years his team has finished in the top-two of the conference standings. In 2012, the team's first year in the Pacific West Conference, Azusa Pacific went 10-4, and boasted a perfect 7-0 record at home in PacWest play.

An accomplished player at Wheaton from 1992-95, Blomquist earned NCAA Division III All-American honors as a 1995 senior, then went on to play one year professionally as a teammate of Wolf's on the Chicago Stingers. Blomquist was named the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Player of the Year in 1995 after posting 13 goals and two assists. In his Wheaton career, Blomquist finished with 17 goals and 5 assists and was a 2-time All-CCIW first-team selection. In 2011 he was inducted into the Wheaton College Athletic Hall of Honor.

    Ryan Hernandez

Associate Head Coach - UC San Diego

Ryan Hernandez is in his 15th season as a member of the UC San Diego men's soccer coaching staff in 2022, and ninth as the associate head coach.

    Ryan Hernandez 150x150

    Ryan Hernandez

Associate Head Coach - UC San Diego

Hernandez arrived in La Jolla in July of 2008 as part of head coach Jon Pascale's initial staff. He became the top assistant for the 2013 season, and was promoted to associate head coach in March of 2014. He is actively involved in all facets of the program, including on-field coaching, recruiting, fund-raising, team travel, off-season training regimens and summer camps.

Hernandez helped guide the Tritons to nine straight campaigns of .500 or better to close out Division II, and 10 out of 11 in all. UC San Diego concluded its D2 era with a program-best six consecutive California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Tournament berths, with NCAA Championship appearances in four seasons, in 2013, 2014, 2016, and 2019. The Tritons advanced to the CCAA and West Region title matches in 2013, and all the way to the national semifinals in 2016 as CCAA regular-season, CCAA tournament and NCAA West Region treble winners.

UC San Diego has developed into one of the toughest defenses in the NCAA Division II. The Tritons ranked in the top 10 nationally in team goals-against average in three successive seasons (2012-14), leading the country in 2012 with a then-CCAA-record mark of 0.44. They were fourth in 2013 (0.52), again pacing the league, and seventh in 2014 (0.65).

In addition to his duties at UC San Diego, Hernandez was the boy's varsity head coach at San Diego Jewish Academy (SDJA) for several years until the 2015-16 season, leading the Lions to six CIF San Diego Section playoff appearances and a couple of Pacific League titles.

Hernandez began his coaching career at two schools he had previously attended. He took over the boy's varsity program at Newport Harbor High School in Newport Beach at the age of 20 after one season each of directing the junior varsity squad and assisting with the varsity. Hernandez led NHHS to a Sunset League title and a deep run in the CIF Southern Section playoffs in his first go-around in charge. He spent a total of seven years coaching there.

In 2007, Hernandez was an assistant coach at Orange Coast College in Costa Mesa. The Pirates finished with an 8-8-6 record, narrowly missing a spot in the Orange Empire Conference Championship. He also coached the U-16 side and helped with academy teams at the Pateadores Soccer Club in Costa Mesa.

Hernandez competed all four years and was a three-year varsity starter for Newport Harbor, captaining the Sailors as a senior. His playing career at OCC was cut short following one season as a sophomore due to a recurring back injury. With the Irvine Strikers and Pateadores club programs, his teams made three National Cup finals.

After attaining his associate degree from Orange Coast College in 2004, Hernandez earned a Bachelor of Arts in communications from Cal State Fullerton in 2007. He and his wife, Stacey, now reside in Encinitas. They welcomed their first child, son Cruz, in early January of 2017.

"His winning reputation has been a tremendous asset in player recruiting which has resulted in successful teams. He will bring an unparalleled enthusiasm and knowledge as a coach with his enthusiasm and passion for the game."

Born and raised in Hungary, Toth played at the highest youth levels in the Hungarian First Division before competing in the second and third divisions at the semi-pro level. His coaching journey began in 2011 at FC Budapest where he coached against top European academies such as Barcelona, Juventus along with the best Eastern European team.

In 2015, Toth moved to the United States where he coached with Slammer FC and West Coast FC, developing elite talent on both the boys and girls sides (U15-U19).

  • Josh glover 150x150

    Joshua Glover

Head Coach & GK Coach - Concordia University (Irvine)

Joshua Glover joined Concordia in the summer of 2025 as the new head coach of the men’s soccer program

    Josh glover 150x150

    Joshua Glover

Head Coach & GK Coach - Concordia University (Irvine)

Before joining the Golden Eagles, Glover spent three seasons as an assistant coach at D1 California Baptist University, helping the Lancers rack up 27 victories and win nearly 70 percent of their home games during that span. In those three years, CBU excelled in the postseason, winning six straight WAC Tournament games and two WAC Tournament titles. This included the Lancers advancing to the NCAA Tournament twice. CBU also earned 19 clean sheets in those three years.

Glover also spent time at Biola University as a valuable assistant coach. As a member of the 2021 Biola coaching staff, he helped the Red and Black during a historic campaign that saw the squad go 11-7 overall and make the program’s first-ever NCAA DII Tournament appearance. Glover also coached the goalkeepers at Westcliff University after playing professionally for multiple years.

A former All-Conference goalkeeper at Westmont College, Glover went 15-13-2 between the pipes, collecting seven individual shutouts and combining with a teammate for two more clean sheets. He made over 110 saves in his career and allowed just 1.05 goals-per-game during his senior season in Santa Barbara.

Following two successful seasons playing at Westmont, he played in England for the Concord Rangers of the National South League and also then Lowestoft Tower of the Southern Football League. In addition, he made semi-pro stops with the Orange County Football Club (formerly of the National Premier Soccer League) and the Southern California Seahorses of United Soccer League 2.

Glover hails from Norwich, England but also claims Beijing, China as a home town after spending a large chunk of his childhood there as well.

Everywhere he has gone, Glover has made an impact – both on and off the pitch.

His prayer is that Concordia men’s soccer will not only be known for how it competes, but for how the staff shows how they love, serve, and develop the young men entrusted to us.

He focuses on leading with a deep care for people over players, building trust and accountability while holding high standards. Tactically, he believes in playing a style of football that is purposeful in possession, intensely cohesive in defending and dynamic in transition.

His goal is to develop intelligent, adaptable players within a system that reflects Concordia’s values and commitment to excellence.

He and his wife are excited to be a member of the Concordia family.
