    Martin Parkes

    Co-Director

    Coach Martin Parkes has over 25 years of coaching experience at every level, from beginner to professional and 6 years of experience as Camp Director for numerous Nike Adult Sports Camps. A former top junior and NCAA Division I ranked player from Great Britain, he has been based in the U.S. for the past 23 years, including nine years at Saddlebrook International Tennis Academy in Florida, where he served as the ITF Team head coach and academy mental performance director.

    Transitioning to college coaching after completing his MBA in Sports Business, Coach Parkes led the Saint Leo University men’s team to a national final and #1 national ranking, while also guiding the women’s team to two Final Four appearances. He later joined Pepperdine as the men’s assistant coach for the 2016-17 season, helping the team secure a second-place finish in the WCC regular season and reach the championship final. He is also a certified RSPA and PTR Elite Pro and previously served as the Pepperdine Tennis Community director. In 2017, he took on the role of Pepperdine Crest Associates tennis program coach, focusing on serving the Pepperdine and local community with engaging tennis programs.

    His coaching highlights include reaching an NCAA national final with Saint Leo and acting as a sports psychologist and traveling coach for Jonathan Marray, the 2012 Wimbledon men’s doubles champion. Throughout his career, he has influenced numerous players, many of whom have gone on to become top professionals or represent elite collegiate programs.

    Currently, Coach Parkes is at North Ranch Country Club in Westlake Village, where he runs www.martinparkestennis.com, engaging players of all levels with events centered on his coaching philosophy of “making better lives through tennis!”

    Lead Coach

    With an impressive ATP career high ranking of 1111 and British Tour Champion, Jason Torpey brings a wealth of experience and passion to the court!

    Throughout his career, he has secured wins against several Grand Slam players, including Rohan Bopanna, the current Australian Open Champion and #1 doubles player.

    As an ATP-certified coach, LTA Coach Tutor, and Tennis Canada licensed coach, Jason has coached both Grand Slam professionals and junior players at events around the globe. Most recently, he played a pivotal role in coaching Henry Patten, the 2024 Wimbledon Men's Doubles Champion, during an ATP event.

    For over 15 years, Jason owned and operated a successful tennis academy at an exclusive members club in the UK, where he catered to all sections of the club—from juniors to adults and beginners to performance athletes. He also organized tennis trips across Europe, providing players with unique training experiences.

    Now a recent addition to Vancouver, Canada, Jason Torpey serves as the Junior Tennis Manager at Hollyburn Country Club, where he is dedicated to fostering the next generation of tennis talent.

  • Rich Francey

    USSC Camp Director & Administrator

    Rich is a veteran camp director and RSPA Certified Teaching Professional. He first coached the Rowland Hall tennis teams from 1991 to 2004, leading the program to an impressive 12 state championships during his tenure. A lifelong racquet sports professional, Rich began his career as the tennis director at the Snowbird Canyon Racquet Club before going on to operate Nike Sports Camps across the country. In 2004, he relocated to Southern California, where he continued his impact on the sport through leadership roles with Prince Tennis, Babolat, and Tennis Warehouse. In 2020, Rich returned to Salt Lake City and rejoined Rowland Hall as the boys’ and girls' tennis coach, while also resuming his role with US Sports Camps. With over two decades of experience running top-tier tennis and pickleball camps nationwide, Rich remains deeply committed to the development of junior and adult athletes. His passion lies in creating high-quality, engaging camp experiences that inspire growth, on the court and beyond.

SKILL LEVELS & GROUP PLACEMENT

Upon arrival, all participants are evaluated by the staff so that their own instructional needs can be addressed throughout the week. Participants are then sorted by ability first, then age per the Camp Director's discretion - adjustments are made as needed during camp.

While there are many ways to define skill levels, the following descriptions are what the Camp Directors at Nike Tennis Camps will use to organize and group camp participants. At the time of registration, please choose the level that best represents your experience:

  • Beginner: Players who are new to the game and have little to no formal instruction. They are focused on learning the fundamentals and the basic rules of tennis. Typically play for recreation and have very little or no match-play experience. USTA rating of 2.0 or lower, or no rating.

  • Intermediate: Players who can serve and maintain rallies with some consistency. They are fairly reliable with medium-paced shots but may struggle with certain strokes and lack precision in directional control and power. Generally play recreationally at their local club. USTA rating of 3.0.

  • Advanced: Players with dependable strokes and strong directional control. They display an all-around competitive spirit, improved court coverage, and are developing strategies for both singles and doubles play. These players compete regularly at local clubs or travel to participate in USTA tournaments. USTA rating of 3.5 and above.

  • Check-In: Campers check in on Friday 3:00pm-3:30pm at the La Quinta Tennis Center
  • Check Out: All campers check out on Sunday at 1:00pm at the La Quinta Tennis Center

  • This is a Day Camp only; housing is NOT included in the camp tuition. Campers are responsible for arranging their own overnight accommodations if needed.
  • US Sports Camps, the Camp Director, camp staff, and the host facility are not liable for any travel-related arrangements, including but not limited to flights, hotels, Airbnbs, or rental cars.
  • We recommend booking refundable or flexible travel and accommodation options in case of any changes to the camp schedule.

EQUIPMENT, FACILITY & MORE

  • Equipment Needed: All campers must bring a tennis racquet, tennis shoes, and a water bottle
  • Facility: La Quinta Resort's beautiful outdoor tennis courts
  • Medical Protocol: Most camps have an athletic trainer on-site to help with illness or injury. In case of an emergency, campers will be transported to the nearest hospital

CANCELLATION POLICIES *PLEASE READ CAREFULLY*

Cancellations, for any reason, received at least seven (7) days before camp start date, will result in a camp VOUCHER for all tuition fees paid, valid through the following calendar year. Your VOUCHER is transferable to any family member and may be used for any sport. Cash refunds will be given only with the purchase of Cancellation Protection (see terms below). Those who cancel their camp session within seven (7) days of the camp start date will receive a camp VOUCHER for 50% of the camp tuition. Individuals who DO NOT attend their registered session (no-shows) will forfeit their full tuition payment.

Please note: Any camper with an unpaid balance 10 days before camp will forfeit all camp fees paid to date and be removed from the camp.

Cancellation by US Sports Camps
  • In the unlikely event that US Sports Camps cancels your camp session, we will refund only your camp tuition and registration fee. Camper waives any and all damages that may otherwise arise out of any camp cancellation and agrees to accept as liquidated damages said registration fees.
Cancellation Protection
  • US Sports Camps offers our camp families Cancellation Protection for $100 per session, due at the time of registration. Cancellation Protection entitles you to a full refund of your camp tuition fees paid to date (Please note: $100 Cancellation Protection and Registration fee are non-refundable.) if you cancel for any reason before your final payment date (the first day of the month prior to the month your camp begins, i.e. final pay date of May 1st for any camp in your sport beginning in the month of June). Cancellation Protection is not available for purchase when using a voucher credit towards camp tuition.
  • With Cancellation Protection, if you cancel after your final payment due date, we will issue you a camp voucher for your tuition payments made. Your camp voucher will be transferable to an immediate family member and can be used for any sport. For camps taking place in 2024, camp vouchers are valid through 2025.
Accommodations and Travel
  • These are Day Camps only; housing is not included in the camp tuition. Campers are responsible for arranging their own overnight accommodations.
  • US Sports Camps, the Camp Director, the staff, and the host facility are not liable for any travel arrangements, including but not limited to flights, hotels, Airbnb’s, or rental cars.
  • We recommend booking travel accommodations that are refundable or flexible, in case of any changes to the camp schedule.
