The Bucket Drill from Coach Stegmaier

Nike Softball 072215 5548

This form of the bucket drill is for at least a full infield with buckets at 1st and 2nd base. The object of the drill is to get a maximum amount of reps in during a short amount of time.

Balls are hit to various positions and thrown to certain bases for game like situations. For example, 5-3, 6-3, 4-3, 5-4-3, and then 6-4-3. These combinations amongst others, can enhance the number of reps as well as getting the players in a rhythm. The point of the bucket is for the players playing at 1st and 2nd base to be able to catch the ball and throw it into the bucket. Coach Stegmaier from Nike Softball Camp Timberline High School in Idaho says, “Hit one ball after another. Kids field and toss into bucket. This gets huge amounts of reps in.” See the diagram below for how this drill should be set up.
