Andrew Carlson
Camp Director

During the summer of 2018, Andrew Carlson was hired as Kenyon's senior assistant tennis coach. In 2020-21, he took on duties as acting men's tennis coach and, one year later, was hired as the head coach of both Kenyon's men's and women's programs. At the start of the 2024-25 campaign, Carlson's coaching duties shifted back to the men's side, focusing his efforts as the Owls head men's tennis coach.
While still leading both the men's and women's programs in 2023-24, each Owls squad secured a top-25 national ranking, multiple All-NCAC awards, and ITA All-Academic Team recognition. On the men's side, Kenyon finished the season with a 14-8 overall record, including a 6-1 mark in NCAC play, and the Owls finished the year ranked No. 25 in the nation. The women's team doubled up for a second straight season, again winning the regular-season NCAC Championship and the NCAC Tournament Championship. The Owls won their first-round matchup in their second straight NCAA Tournament appearance and finished the season at No. 22 in the national standings.
In the 2021-22 season, Carlson's first full season as head coach, the men's team posted a 13-8 overall record, was runner-up at the NCAC Tournament and finished the season with a No. 20 national rank and a No. 5 regional rank. On the women's side, the team was 13-10, also a runner-up at the NCAC Tournament, and gained a national rank of No. 27 and a regional rank of No. 5. Senior Daria Beshentseva was one of just 32 invited to play in the 2022 NCAA Division III Singles Championship and, alongside sophomore teammate Eleni Dakos, was part of just 16 duos that earned the right to play in the NCAA Division III Doubles Championship.
In 2022-23, his second at the helm, Carlson directed the Kenyon women to a 20-5 record, an NCAC title and a run into the third round of the NCAA DIII Tournament. Additionally, first-years Eleni Lazaridou and Allaire Berl made it to the quarterfinal of the NCAA DIII Doubles Championship, while Lazaridou ventured all the way to the semifinals of the NCAA DIII Singles Championship. The women, as a team, ended the season with a No. 19 national rank. On the men's side, Carlson's 2022-23 squad went through an extremely difficult schedule, went 14-10 and earned a No. 23 national rank.
Before the pandemic limited action in the 2021 season, Carlson helped assist both teams to national rankings during the spring 2020 campaign, which was also affected by the pandemic. The men got off to a 7-3 start with wins over three ranked teams, while the women were 6-1.
Prior to that, in 2018-19, Carlson's first as an assistant at Kenyon, the men won the NCAC Championship for the 13th straight year and finished the season ranked No. 11 in the country. As for the women, they won their third-straight NCAC Championship, advanced to the third round of the NCAA Tournament and ended the year ranked No. 14.
Carlson played on the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Tour for four years (2001-2004) and earned world rankings as high as No. 825 in singles and No. 350 in doubles. Prior to his time as a pro, Carlson played at The Ohio State University, where he manned the No. 1 spot in both the Buckeyes' singles and doubles lineups. He was named Academic All-Big Ten for two seasons and during his junior campaign earned a No. 2 national rank in doubles play.
After his professional playing career, Carlson worked as a head tennis professional at clubs in North Carolina and Maryland. In 2008, he was hired as the director of tennis at the United States Naval Academy's Brigade Sports Complex. After five years there, he moved on to work as director of junior tennis at Athletic Performance Inc. in Gambrills, Maryland and then as assistant tennis director at Chartwell Country Club in Severna Park, Maryland.
He graduated from Ohio State in 2001 with a degree in business administration.
