Javier Decima
Camp Director
Javier Décima is recognized throughout the region as one of the top player‑development coaches and mentors, known for his ability to elevate athletes of all positions through detailed instruction, high standards, and a player‑first approach.
Décima currently serves as an Assistant Coach at Sacred Heart University, bringing extensive experience developing college athletes into confident, high‑performing competitors. Prior to joining Sacred Heart, he spent five years as Associate Head Coach at Fairfield University.
Throughout his career, Décima has played a major role in shaping several athletes who advanced to the professional and international levels. Among them are Michael O’Keeffe (New Zealand Men’s National Team, 2012 Olympics) and Matt Turner (U.S. Men’s National Team, MLS Goalkeeper of the Year, Arsenal FC). While both were goalkeepers, their success is widely attributed to Décima’s holistic approach to development, emphasizing mentality, consistency, and growth habits that apply to all positions across the field.
At Fairfield, Décima also mentored Gordon Botterill, a multi‑year All‑MAAC selection and two‑time MAAC Goalkeeper of the Year, further reinforcing his reputation for maximizing the potential of every athlete he works with.
Outside the college game, Décima is deeply connected to the Connecticut soccer community. He serves as Goalkeeper Director for Beachside of Connecticut (MLS NEXT) and co‑founded Keepermax Goalkeeper Academy, helping guide youth players across all development stages. His reputation as a trusted teacher, mentor, and motivator has made him a sought‑after coach for athletes striving to reach the next level.
Décima’s foundation as a coach stems from his successful playing career. He began at Ulster Community College, where he won a Region 15 title and finished third nationally, before moving to the University of Bridgeport, earning multiple all‑conference and all‑region honors. He went on to complete both his BS in Psychology and MS in Counseling at Bridgeport while serving as a graduate assistant on the men’s soccer staff.
Originally from Buenos Aires, Argentina, Javier holds both an NSCAA Advanced National Goalkeeping Diploma and an NSCAA National Diploma. He resides in Stamford, CT with his wife, Lindsay, and their son, Maximiliano.
