Join Associate Head Women's Golf Coach for Duke University, Jon Whithaus for an unforgettable overnight short game camp experience in Durham, NC. These programs are designed for golfers of all skill levels with the primary goal of helping juniors reach their short game goals.

SHORT GAME CAMP (Summer)

Whether it be junior golf, collegiate golf, or professional golf, the best players are the ones who consistently maintain a high level of efficiency and success in all aspects of the short game. Nike Short Game Camps at Duke University offer evaluation, analysis, short game instruction, the PDI assessment, overnight accommodations, discussions, and training from our highly successful instructional staff. The specialized short game work our staff members have done with their students has helped to win tournaments at the highest levels.

The Player Development Index Assessment (PDI): PDI is an objective measurement of an athlete's golf skills and physical performance. Throughout the camp, players will preform the PDI assessment with the camp staff and receive ongoing access to other PDI benefits throughout the year.

The Short Game Camps at Duke University offer a three-day overnight program that includes short game instruction, meals, overnight accommodations and collegiate discussions. An extended day option will be available for local players and include short game instruction, meals, and collegiate discussions.

Students stay overnight in the dormitories at Duke University. Daily activities will take place at The Duke University Golf Club and players will use the private Rod Myers Center varsity training areas, along with Karcher Ingram Golf Center.

Your desires to improve your scoring ability and consistently move up the scoreboard can be reached through the extensive analysis, evaluation, and instruction that you receive during the short game school. Not only will you truly have an understanding of your strengths and weaknesses from inside 125 yards, but you'll leave the short game school with a clear understanding how to continue your training for years to come.

  • Check-in: Registration occurs on Friday from 1:00pm-2:00pm for all campers in front of the dorms (TBD). The first golf session takes place after check-in. Extended Day Campers will check-in at 8:30am at the Karcher Ingram Center for Saturday and Sunday of camp.
  • Check-out: Check-out will occur on Sunday at 3:00pm from the Karcher Ingram Center. The camp staff will host a recap of the camp prior to each camper's departure. After the recap at the golf course, overnight campers will go to the dorms (TBD) to retrieve their belongings and check-out from the residence hall.
  • Meals: Overnight campers will receive all meals during camp (breakfast, lunch, dinner). Day campers will receive all meals during camp, except for breakfast.
  • Program: The Short Game Camp program is specifically designed for the junior golfer who plays high school golf, wishes to play college golf and seeks to improve their overall tournament results. It is open to all skill levels of young men and women, ages 12-18, but the curriculum is geared towards players who are playing competitively. Specifically, the camp teaches the practice habits of championship golfers, fitness, mental strength, college preparation, time management, course management, academics and team camaraderie.

WHAT'S INCLUDED IN THE FEE?

  • Instruction: Short game instruction will include drills covering putting, chipping, distance wedges, bunker training, tough lies, and ball control testing.
  • Meals: Overnight campers will receive all meals during camp (breakfast, lunch, dinner). Day campers will receive all meals during camp, except for breakfast.
  • Supervision: Campers are under staff supervision at all times as staff members live in adjacent rooms to overnight campers. Drugs, alcohol and tobacco are strictly prohibited, and constitute, along with general misconduct, grounds for dismissal from camp without a refund.
  • Camper Amenity Package: Campers will receive an amenity package including a Nike hat, drawstring bag, SRIXON golf balls, camp workbook, and graduation certificate.

INSTRUCTION, EQUIPMENT & FACILITY

  • Ratio: 1:6 staff-to-camper ratio.
  • Groupings: Campers are grouped by age, ability, and experience.
  • Equipment Needed: Players should supply their own golf clubs, glove, golf balls, and tees.
  • Facilities: Karcher-Ingram Golf Center, The Duke University Golf Club
  • Medical Protocol: Camp will have on-site staff to help with illness or injury. In case of an emergency, campers will be transported to the nearest hospital.
  • Housing:
    • Dorm: TBD
    • Campers Per Room: Campers will be housed in double rooms.
    • Roommates: Campers stay in two-person rooms and are assigned by age, gender and roommate requests. If you have a roommate request, and have not previously provided us with the information, please do so no later than 14 days prior to the camp start date. If you don't have a roommate request, you will be placed in a room with someone near your age. It will be a great opportunity to meet someone new!
    • Linens: Linens are NOT provided. Please bring blankets, sheets, towels and a pillow.
    • Air Conditioning: All rooms are air-conditioned.
    • Spending Money: We recommend that each overnight camper bring $60-75 per week of spending money to cover incidentals like snacks, souvenirs and other activities.

*Staff members reside in campers’ quarters and participate in all activities.

US Sports Camp and Duke University Golf Club are NOT responsible for lost or stolen articles or money. Below is a suggested list of clothes, equipment and personal items. We recommend that you do not send unnecessary items, which can get lost. Camper bags may be inspected upon check in or at any time during camp to ensure no drugs, alcohol or other improper substances are brought to camp.

TRANSPORTATION

Nike Junior Golf Camps does not provide ground transportation from airports, train stations or bus stations. Parents/guardians are fully responsible for getting campers to and from camp check-in/out. If you have a child flying to camp, please visit the Raleigh-Durham Int’l Airport site (http://www.rdu.com/) for ground transport options.

Duke University Golf Club

The beautiful 18-hole championship Duke University Golf Club opened in 1957 and is the only Robert Trent Jones-designed course in the region. Camp participants have access to the pristine varsity golf practice areas the Karcher Ingram Golf Center and Rod Myers Training Center. Karcher-Ingram Golf Center features coaches' offices, men's and women's locker rooms, a club-repair room, a trophy room, lounge, library/study area and a state-of-the-art indoor training and practice facility, complete with indoor putting surfaces, training aids and video analysis systems. Rod Myers Training Center includes a short-game area designed exclusively for the Duke golf teams where players can practice any shot inside 110 yards. The short-game area includes sand and grass bunkers, uneven lies, a practice fairway bunker, a target green for wedge shots, a pitching green and an expansive putting green. The chipping and putting zones feature greens with the two most common styles of grass so that the team members can prepare for the playing surface of each approaching tournament.

Karcher Ingram Golf Center

Connected to the Washington Duke Inn, the Karcher Ingram Golf Center is the exclusive Duke varsity golf facility which campers will have the priviledge of calling their "home base." It has indoor facilities making it a great backup for inclement whether and offers players and coaches with a closed environment for instruction.
