Nike Running Camps Partners with UNC to Host the Nike Carolina Distance Camp
San Rafael, CA – The Nike Running Camps have announced the 2019 dates for the UNC Distance Camp, held on the Chapel Hill campus, June 26-30. High school runners have the opportunity of a lifetime to stay in the dorms on campus, eat in the dining hall and train on the same trails used by the UNC distance athletes.
The UNC Distance Camp is specifically designed for runners preparing for their upcoming cross-country season.
UNC Assistant Distance Coach Bobby Lockhart takes over as director of this successful summer camp program. Lockhart was a standout runner at the University of Wisconsin and most recently was the assistant distance coach at Oklahoma State University
“The Carolina Distance Camp returns to our 2019 lineup with the new UNC XC coaching staff,” Coach Lockhart brings years of experience to Chapel Hill. He has proven his success as both a coach and a college runner at the highest levels in both track & field and cross country,” says Jan O’Connor, Executive Vice President of US Sports Camps.
“I’m excited to continue as the Nike Carolina camp director. Hosting the camp right here in Chapel Hill, campers will have the opportunity to experience a great college town, interact with collegiate athletes and coaches, and train on the wonderful trails the area has to offer. We want to provide a fun and educational experience. Let’s train, learn and have fun!”
The curriculum consists of educational lectures given by accomplished NCAA coaches on topics such as training, stretching, nutrition, life as a collegiate athlete, the recruiting process and more. The camp is open to all middle-distance and cross-country athletes, ages 13-18, whom are interested in furthering their knowledge on training, injury prevention, running biomechanics, nutrition, strength training, and recovery.
