Getting to Know: Tony Bresky - Wake Forest University Head Men’s Tennis Coach
Amidst his fifth season at the helm of the Wake Forest men's tennis program, Tony Bresky has guided the Demon Deacons back to being a national power. In just four seasons, Bresky has guided Wake Forest to two ACC Championship finals appearances, a program-record 24 wins in 2015 and the program's third Sweet 16 appearance just last season. The team is currently ranked No. 6 heading into the upcoming NCAA Tournament.
How many years have you been directing camp?
I have been a Nike Tennis Camp Director at Wake Forest for 4 years.
Favorite camp/tennis drill and why?
I love to compete. I really enjoy all the competitive games we play. It would not be a Wake Forest Nike Tennis Camp without some Davis Cup. I want to find out at the end of camp who the toughest team is. I also enjoy seeing how exciting the kids get when we play Around The World. It works on consistency and discipline.
Why did you get in to coaching?
It was an opportunity to continue to participate in the sport I love. I get the chance to mentor young men in an important stage in their lives.
What’s in your tennis bag?
When I played college tennis I had all the essentials in my tennis bag. I was already prepared. I had 4 freshly strung racquets, water bottle, towels, headbands, wristbands, granola bars, grips, and vibration dampeners. Now, when I coaching I come out to the court with all the coaching essentials. These include sunglasses, gum, some winning Wake Forest Nike Tennis Gear, and a winning attitude ready to focus.
If you could “borrow” one stroke from a current pro player, who would it be and why?
I would borrow Isner’s serve. You can play anyone in the world and get to a tiebreaker by holding your serve every time.
Go-to Nike product/gear? I live in Nike Gear from head to toe. I cannot live with out my Nike Shades. Even at my wedding I had those sunglasses by my side. I am also always rocking Wake Forest Nike Black and gold gear with Nike tennis or running shoes. But honestly I love playing golf. My go to favorite nike gear is my golf driver. The new Nike Vapor Driver.
