4 Tips to Staying Healthy

Being healthy is very important when playing the sport that you love. Follow these simple tips to ensure that you will remain at your best shape possible.

  1. Sun Protection: Playing outside all day can be harsh on your skin. Make sure to use SPF 30 sunscreen or higher to protect your skin from the sun’s ultraviolet rays.
  2. Heat: In summer, it can get hot outside and, in your gear, so take a break if you need too. Listen to your body and understand the signs they are giving you. Have a cool towel ready for you when standing off on the sidelines.
  3. Hydration: Keep yourself hydrated. Constantly drink water before, during, and after your practice or game. It is imperative to keep your body hydrated during a practice outdoors. Stay away from any caffeinated beverages. These can make your body feel less energized. Right after your hard practice or game, drink a chocolate milk. The sugars in the milk and chocolate will replenish the ones you lost from exercising.
  4. Nutrition: Eat healthy. It is important that you treat your body with care. Remember, what you put into your body will reflect on the field. For a healthy snack option try an apple or carrots and humus. For any meal, try whole grains or fish. Limit the amount of carbonated beverages, chips, sweets, and fast food in your system. These can make your body feel lethargic.
