Tennis Tip: News and What’s Up for Nike Tennis Camps at Mt. Holyoke College in 2024

From the desk of Coach Mike Gardner...

Welcome to Nike Tennis Camp at Mt. Holyoke College, 2024. Ryan and I are currently planning, hiring and working to make this year’s program, the best ever!

For the next few months, leading up to camp, we will be posting a “blog” highlighting information about the camp, answering frequently asked questions, and providing guidance where needed for program selection, rooming, etc. We hope you enjoy it!

This summer, we will be operating camp at Mt. Holyoke College for seven weeks. During those weeks, we will be offering the following varied programs:

• General Skills for all ages including specific “ High School Only” weeks.
• Tournament Training for Advanced Tournament Play and Intro to Tournament Play levels.
• A unique ” two week” Tournament Challenge Camp program including a Universal Tennis Rating (UTR) sanctioned tournament event held on the weekend between weeks.
• A girls only college weekend “exposure” camp held in conjunction with the following college coaches:
  • Jackie Bagwell, Amherst College
  • Caitlyn Lawrence, Smith College
  • Aldo Santiago, Mt Holyoke College

I often get asked what is it that makes camp at Mt. Holyoke so special and why it has become so popular. I think the difference between us and other tennis camps has to do with the fact that I work exclusively with camp-age kids year-round and have done it over my entire 40-year career.

I work specifically hard with kids that are the camper-age with different abilities as well as collegiate-level players. At the Nike Tennis Camp at Mt. Holyoke, all instruction and training is specifically suited to the age and level of the participant.

Also, a very large part of our program are the balance of evening and weekend programs. We put a lot of effort and take pride in our development of fun and healthy social programs. It is just as important to us as our tennis instruction and play activities.
