3 volleyball drills to help your movement on the court

Sacred Heart University Volleyball Camp Scrimmage

Players can expect to participate in various drill work and receive feedback from the Sacred Heart University volleyball camp staff.

You don’t always have to have a lot of space to work on your volleyball techniques. Sometimes all you need is half a court or even a back yard. At the Nike Volleyball Camp at Sacred Heart University, Head Coach Rob Machan teaches players some simple drills that help his players become comfortable with their movements on the court.

Block Transition Attack

Here in the Block Transition Attack, players will work on moving together with efficient block movements and base to read transitions and then immediately transition to offensive and cover patterns.

Ghost Ball Drill

During the Ghost Ball Drill, the team or player will react to an offensive set called by a coach or other person by blocking and transitioning to attack. During this time they will be focusing on the play as if there were a ball involved.

Short, Medium, and Long Drill

This drill focuses on players' footwork and form by having them pass balls back and forth at 5’ then 10’ and last 15’. The same can be done with overhead passing as well.

Working on these drills will help you move more smoothly and fluidly on the court. Each one of these workouts is designed to help practice your side to side, forward and backward, as well as diving movement. For more helpful volleyball tips and drills join us this summer at a Nike Volleyball Camp!
