San Rafael, CA - In a defensive struggle, California outlasted Cal Poly, 6-4, to capture the 2018 Western Collegiate Lacrosse League (WCLL) Division I championships at Rancho Cotate High School on Sunday.

With the win, the Golden Bears (11-5) automatically qualify for the 2018 MCLA National Championships powered by Under Armour, which will be held in Salt Lake City from May 7-12.

Locked in a 2-2 tie at halftime, Cal managed to outscore the Mustangs (8-9) 3-2 in the third period to bring a 5-4 lead into the final frame.

The Bears pitched a shutout in the final 15 minutes while tacking on an insurance goal. It was the first WCLL championship for Cal in 18 years.

This summer, Cal is offering one session of lacrosse camp in the east bay July 29-31. Instruction takes place each day at Maxwell Field, located next to Memorial Stadium, on the beautiful campus of UC-Berkeley.

Directed by Cal Men's Head Lacrosse Coach, Ned Webster, the summer lacrosse camp is designed for beginners to those with aspirations of playing for the Golden Bears (ages 8-18), and focuses on stick skills, position play, team concepts, an overall intense level of competition. Discussions on what it takes to become a Golden Bear as well as a campus tour are included.
