Nike Rugby Camps Announces Youth and Teen Programs at Storied Jesuit High School
Jesuit High School in Sacramento, CA set to host Nike Rugby Day Camps in 2018.
March 26, 2018 – Nike Rugby Camps recently announced the addition of Jesuit High School in Sacramento as its newest youth rugby camp location this summer. Hosted by the Jesuit High School Varsity coaching staff, players are invited to train with one of the nation’s top prep programs aimed at improving fundamentals and game strategy education. Varsity Coach, John Shorey, looks forward to coordinating with local clubs and grassroots rugby to expose as many young athletes as possible to the camps.
“Over the past 20 years we have learned that there is no perfect drill to make a great rugby player, instead we have seen that a more game-based approach allows for the kids to be the decision makers and allow the game to be the teacher,” states Head Coach, John Shorey. “Sacramento is a hotbed of youth rugby and we look forward to a week of rugby fun for all ages!”
As one of the country’s most accomplished rugby schools, Jesuit coaches bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to the camp and have designed the curriculum to cater to players of all skills and sizes. Jesuit Rugby alums have gone on to compete at the highest levels including college, professional and international play and the camp organizers hope to cater to both new players looking for a quality foundation and polished ruggers looking to elevate their game to new heights.
“Jesuit boasts one of the most decorated histories in high school rugby and we’re ecstatic to be working in conjunction with their coaches to host these camps,” says Nicholas Brunner, national director for Nike Rugby Camps. “Those guys are working hard to prepare a curriculum to provide local players with the most memorable experience, and I’m confident they’ll deliver."
Campers participate in drills, challenges, and scrimmaging activities structured to reinforce fundamentals, field awareness and rugby IQ. All training takes place at the rugby field on campus at Jesuit High School. In addition to the Jesuit coaches, participants can look forward to special appearances by players from the US National Team and other local rugby coaches.
Nike Rugby Camp at Jesuit High School will run from July 30 – August 3, 2018. There are two sessions being offered; a youth camp (players ages 7 – 12) which runs from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. and a teen camp (players ages 13 – 17) running from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. each day.
