Nike Running Camps Release Dates for 2020 Smoky Mountain Running Camp

SAN RAFAEL, Calif. -- One of the nation’s premier cross-country running camps, the Nike Smoky Mountain Running Camp (SMRC) proudly celebrates its 47th summer. Located on the campus of UNC-A, in Asheville, North Carolina, SMRC educates and trains runners using the proven Effort Based Training philosophy. The hard-easy training philosophy was developed by the late, great University of Oregon Coach and Nike Co-Founder Bill Bowerman.

“You can also look forward to the community it brings and the friendships you will make,” Maggie a fifth-year camper says. “Words can’t describe how much I love this camp and the people there.”

The 2020 camp dates are Sunday to Friday, July 5-10, July 12-17 and July 19-24. Campers can attend one or all sessions, with the option to stay on campus in-between. The camp continues to offer the perfect mix of learning, training, and recreation for both high school and middle school runners. 300 runners attend each week session.

The day starts with a featured guest speaker, be it a college coach, Olympic athlete, or motivational speaker. Athletes run twice a day, the morning runs in the Pisgah National Forest and afternoon pacing workouts on the UNC-A track. Each afternoon, educational breakout sessions are offered, with campers choosing two from a list of popular topics.

Also offered is a Coaches Workshop for beginning and experienced coaches interested in learning more about the Effort Based Training curriculum. Coaches are encouraged to accompany their cross-country teams and attend the clinic, covering the latest in training and racing techniques. The workshop runs concurrently with the youth camp session, July 5th- July 10th.
