    Tennis Director

Chapman University Athletics has announced that Evan Parry has been selected as the next Head Coach of the men’s and women’s tennis programs. He comes to Chapman after a successful six-year run at Riverside City College.

“We were extremely impressed with the group of applicants during our search for our next tennis coach,” commented Director of Athletics Terry Boesel. “Evan’s success at RCC, passion for the sport and firm belief in the NCAA Division III philosophy made him the right choice to lead our tennis programs. We firmly believe that his leadership will guide both programs into a new era of Chapman tennis.”

Parry comes to Chapman after spending the last six seasons as the Head Coach of the men’s tennis team at Riverside City College. He was the Orange Empire Conference Coach of the Year three times and won two OEC titles in his time at RCC.

“I am thrilled to take over as the new men’s and women’s tennis coach at Chapman University!” Parry said. “I'm eager to get to work with our fantastic student athletes, to establish both a welcoming environment and team culture that aspires to compete at the highest level. Panther tennis is on the rise!"

Parry’s teams at RCC were perennial contenders for conference titles as he built a record of 71-26 over six seasons, including the 2020 and 2021 seasons that were shortened due to the COVID-19 pandemic. His teams went 35-9 in OEC matches with a perfect 8-0 mark in 2025. He led the Tigers to the CCCAA Regional Championship match last season and had two doubles teams advance to the state semifinals.

Prior to RCC, Parry was the Head Coach of the girl’s tennis team at Woodcrest Christian High School in Riverside, Calif. from 2014-19. He led the team to a league title and CIF Division 5 championship appearance in 2018.

Over the last 12 years, he has worked as a Tennis Professional and General Manager at multiple clubs in the Inland Empire, most recently serving as the Director of Tennis at the iTennis Riverside-Andulka Park Tennis Center.

He attended Malone College in Canton, Ohio where he was a scholarship player on the men’s tennis team for four years. He was the Team Captain as a junior and senior while playing at No. 1 doubles and No. 4 singles.

Upon graduating, he worked as the Intramural Director and Assistant Coach at Tabor College before moving to California to work as a Resident Director at Point Loma Nazarene in 2003. He served as an Assistant Coach from 2003-04 and stayed as a Resident Director until 2011. He then became the Associate Dean of Student Affairs and Director of Residence Life at The Art Institute of California for two years before returning to his career in tennis.

Parry earned his bachelor’s degree in English from Malone College and has graduated with two master’s degrees: an M.A. in Theology from PLNU and an M.A. in Education from San Diego State.

While there are many ways to define skill levels, the following descriptions are what the Camp Directors at Nike Tennis Camps will use to organize and group camp participants. At the time of registration, please choose the level that best represents your athlete's experience:

  • Beginner: Players new to the game with little to no formal tennis instruction. They are still learning the fundamentals, focusing on basic skills and rules of the game. Typically play for recreation and have minimal match-play experience.
  • Intermediate: Players who can serve and sustain rallies with consistency. They are comfortable hitting medium-paced shots but may struggle with all strokes and directional control. Some may have participated in local tournaments and possess a UTR rating or are equivalent to a High School JV player.
  • Advanced: Players with dependable strokes and solid directional control. They demonstrate a strong competitive spirit, improved court coverage, and are developing strategies for both singles and doubles play.
