Soccer Tip

Making the most of practice time

Listen To Coach

Confidence in your training should lead to confidence on game day. It is easy for athletes to arrive to the game ready to compete. Often the real challenge is to bring your best effort to practice day in and day out. Training can seem repetitive, but the importance of training cannot be overlooked.

Tip 1: Approach training with the right frame of mind.

Try your best to come to the field with the mentality to compete. You should think of your practice field as holy ground, where you have the great privilege to train with your team ever day. Practice makes perfect, each day is an opportunity to get better! Set goals for yourself each practice where you emphasize a new skill.

Tip 2: Listen

The greatest players will tell you the importance of actively listening. When you make a conscious effort to remain attentive when a coach is talking, the information will directly translate to the field and increase your game skills.

Tip 3: Compete as you would in a game

Compete against your teammates as you would against an opponent on game day. Teammates are there to make you better. Embrace the frame of mind you want to have on game day. When you compete against teammates at a high intensity you also learn how they play at game speed. Note their tendencies, habits and skills. Make note of this and use it to help yourself and your team’s performance on game day.
