Soccer Dribbling Drill

Soccer dribbling drill

Dribbling is a very important fundamental to both offense and defense in soccer. Offensively it is used to advance the ball in the back court and push to the goal. Dribbling requires players to have great footwork, control over the ball at all times, and the ability to quickly change directions. To become a dominant player on the field you must have the ability to control the ball at your feet. This drill benefits your game and creates space that some can’t find, and also allows you to make quick directional changes.

Straight Cone Dribbling Skills

The objective of this drill is to control the ball at a short pace. Being able to change directions as well as speed with the ball within a short area of you. This helps with your ball control.

To begin this drill (see diagram above).

Set Up:

Line up 5-10 cones in a straight line equally apart about 1 foot away from each other.

Execution:

  1. The player starts with the ball at point A. Dribble the ball in and out of each cone to point B.
  2. Move quickly in and out of the cones while maintaining control of the ball.
  3. Continue with drill using the inside of both feet, outside of both feet; inside and outside of the right foot; inside and outside of the left foot.
  4. Once you have this drill down, the player must speed up the pace while getting quick touches with the ball.
  5. The player must keep their head raised as they dribble. Try not to concentrate on the ball.
