  • Fun doing extra stuff like the dye and slip slide and watermelon and gifts. Also very helpful learning new skills from other players and seeing how they are used in real play. Independent time was good too. Healthier food choices from field house would have been better.

Jamie Tierney enters her fifth season at the helm of UMW field hockey. After she completed a successful season as her first in 2018, leading the Eagles to an 11-6 record and advancement to the Capital Athletic Conference Tournament semifinals, Tierney and the Eagles again advanced to the CAC semifinals in 2019 with a 7-11 mark, and after having the 2020 season cancelled due to COVID-19, led UMW to a 9-7 mark in 2021.

Tierney came to UMW from James Monroe High School in Fredericksburg. She led the Yellow Jackets to nine state tournaments in 14 years as head coach, including the 2017 Virginia state championship. She also brings a wealth of experience at the club level, having served as the head coach for High Voltage Travel hockey club in Fredericksburg, one of the top clubs in the country, since 2006.

"I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to be a part of UMW and the field hockey program", said Tierney. "The success of UMW student athletes both on the field and in the classroom reflects the competitive excellence and academic integrity valued by students and staff. I look forward to continuing this tradition of excellence and working with a talented group of young women."

Tierney was a four-year starter at Radford University, and has both played and coached for the USA Futures program, also having served as coordinator of youth programing. She has played internationally as part of the program as well, playing on the women's national indoor team. She holds a Level 2 coaching license from USA field hockey.

Her other experiences include serving as health and physical education teacher at James Monroe High School since 2015, with duties including coordinating lessons, fitness plans, and activities to promote fitness and wellness.

She also served as co-director of Fredericksburg Field House from 2006-13, where she handled aspects of daily operations including scheduling games and execution of all youth sports, camps, and clinics.

Hannah Fisher '18 joined the Davidson staff in April, 2022.

Fisher played for the Wildcats from 2014-17 and was a sophomore on the 2015 team that reached the Atlantic 10 Tournament.

"I couldn't be more excited for Hannah to join our group,” said head coach Zoe Almquist. “As an alumna of Davidson, she is uniquely equipped to prioritize academic achievement, support social and emotional development and chase athletic excellence without compromise. Her time as an assistant at Central Michigan will give us important markers in our own program's development, and her experience playing in the A-10 Tournament will help us lay the foundation to take Davidson field hockey back there. I'm so happy Hannah is here."

Fisher spent the last four seasons at Central Michigan, first as a graduate assistant, then as an assistant coach and, most recently, as interim head coach.

“I want to thank Zoe Almquist, Scott Applegate and the Davidson Athletics administration for this opportunity,” said Fisher. “I'm incredibly excited to return home to a place that made such an impact on my life and am honored to be back at Davidson College in a new role. I know firsthand the dedication and motivation it takes to be a student-athlete at Davidson. I believe in Zoe's vision for this program and the ability of the team to be top competitors in the A-10. It's a privilege to say I'm a Davidson grad who can now be part of developing and inspiring future student-athletes. I was fortunate enough to be a part of the team that competed in the A-10 championships and am excited to work with Zoe to bring this team back there.”

A midfielder, Fisher was a regular in the Wildcats’ lineup for four years, making 56 starts, scoring 15 goals and finishing with 39 career points. She led the Wildcats with seven goals and 14 points as a senior, after totaling six goals and five assists (17 points) as a junior. She scored a hat trick at Colgate on Oct. 16, 2016 and was an A-10 All-Rookie Team member in 2014.

“Thinking about coming back to my alma mater brings up memories of resilient overtime wins, intense A-10 rivalries, lasting friendships, team family competitions and adventures in new cities,” said Fisher.

Fisher’s ties to Davidson go beyond her own academic and playing career. Her sisters Sarah (field hockey) and Becca (soccer) were also Wildcat student-athletes.
