    Favorite Weekend of the Year

En route to the UNC Golf Camp, for the third time, a couple of years ago, my son said, “Dad, this is my favorite weekend of the year.” We’ve now been five times. It’s hard to pinpoint what makes it so special – the charismatic coaches and players helping, the opportunity to spend time at one of the most beautiful university campuses in the nation, the springboard for improvement offered by such an intimate teaching environment, or just the unequaled pleasure of father/son golf.  Whatever the reason, though, my response was easy:  “It’s my favorite too, son.”

    Winner in my Book

I have been fortunate enough to be involved in both golf camps that UNC offers.  For a couple of years (when my son was younger), we participated in the "Father/Son Camp."  In no way could I have expected how much we would enjoy it. First off, the staff is VERY wise in keeping the number of participants at a certain level.  This allowed both coaches the opportunity to spend significant quality time with each camper. You just never know the effect the positive reinforcement and encouragement from people in their position can have-not just on the child's golf game-but more important, to their personal self-esteem.     It's at this time I should probably mention one of the BEST things about not just the Father/Son Camp, but in the extended stay camp as well:  the players involvement.  I've personally seen 5-6 different players over the years-HEAVILY involved in the Father/Son Camp, and my son speaks SO highly of more that are involved with the week-long version. Not only are they exceptional golfers, but great young men as well-who seem truly happy to spend their time with the kids.  Again, the personal touch that means so much. The daily instruction and competition that the extended camp provides is fantastic.  However, what my son and his roommate STILL talk about is all the fun and conversation(s) they had with the UNC players and fellow campers-OFF the course.  The balance between those two things makes this camp an unqualified winner in my book, and I cannot recommend the experience higher.

    He Loved the Camp

Please accept and extend our thanks to everyone involved with the UNC golf camp.  We could not have been more pleased with our son Tom’s experience.  He has spent every fair-weathered day on our local golf course practicing what he was taught at camp.  It was his first time away by himself as he is a triplet and we could sense that he was quietly nervous; however, his new love for the game of golf has been wonderful for his life.  He has been playing now for only six months and the game seems to truly suit him. He loved the camp.  He loves golf.  He loves UNC.

    Incredible Father/Son Experience

Five years ago I was looking for a way for my son and I to enjoy playing golf together while also giving him advanced training in the sport. We came across the UNC Father-Son Camp and have returned every year since. We have enjoyed the time together, the coaches, the facilities, the camaraderie with the other families, the city of Chapel Hill--well, we've enjoyed everything that goes into our annual excursion from our home in the Midwest to UNC-Chapel Hill. Our son has shown impressive improvement in his game over these years and some of this is attributed to the extensive work he get's in during these days at camp. The camp is for all ages. Five years ago our son was young and just beginning in the sport, now, as a high school student he is a strong player. The camp allows for all levels of golf ability to come together in an enjoyable and supportive environment that is full of fun. I would recommend this for fathers and sons of all ages and will look forward to seeing you there, as we will be back.
