Nike Junior Golf Camps Brings Advanced Player Camp to San Diego

Nike Advanced Junior Golf Camp San Diego News

Competitive junior golfers will train with Division I coaching staff, play variety of courses, and stay on campus at University of San Diego.

April 1, 2019– Nike Junior Golf Camps has expanded their camp network to include an advanced golf camp in San Diego this summer. The four-night/five-day camp is specifically designed for competitive junior golfers looking to lower their score in a golf-intensive environment. Participants stay on campus at University of San Diego and travel to area golf courses, including one round at famed Torrey Pines Golf Course. Division I coaches, Marc Chandonnet (Seattle University), and Evan Emerick (San Diego State University), serve as the camp co-directors.

“San Diego is hard to beat as a summer golf camp destination,” says Jason West, senior vice president for Nike Junior Golf Camps. “Camp participants can look forward to great weather, world-class golf facilities, and a curriculum that incorporates innovative technology and hands-on instruction. Marc and Evan are excited to offer an unforgettable experience.”

The proposed camp format consists of morning instructional groups with emphasis on short game, putting, full swing, and proper practice routines. A student-to-teacher ratio of 4:1 enables the coaches to work intimately with each camper. Afternoons are dedicated to course play where coaches supervise and provide guidance on shot/club selection, strategy, and mental toughness. On top of group instruction and on-course practice, junior golfers receive 1-on-1 video analysis and TrackMan sessions throughout the week. In the evenings, campers participate in fun, non-golf activities.

“For over 12 years now I’ve had the great pleasure of working with some very talented young players at camps around the world,” said Chandonnet, head men’s and women’s golf coach at Seattle University. “I’ve even recruited a few to come play at my respective institutions along the way. The young men and women always seem to come eager to learn and even more importantly to have a good time. We promise this experience will provide both of those opportunities and we look forward to some great weather while playing some fantastic golf courses.”

Emerick, the director of golf operations at San Diego State added, “I’m very excited to co-direct the Nike Golf Camp at USD this summer. It’s my passion to help junior golfers learn and improve their golf game. I look forward to helping these campers understand how important the short game and mental side of golf is in their overall development as competitive players.”

The Nike Advanced Golf Camp at USD has an all-inclusive overnight option, as well as an extended-day camp (9:00AM-8:00PM) for local juniors that wish to sleep at home. Session dates are June 23 – 27, 2019. The camp is co-ed and is suitable for advanced golfers, ages 13 – 18.
