3 Drills to Improve Your Soccer Dribbling
- Dance
No were not talking salsa or swing dancing. Work on drills in which you “dance” with the ball. Focus on utilizing the different regions of your feet. Perform tapping drills touching the top of the ball with your toes and the soles of your feet. Try to get a rhythm going. Push yourself to go faster while maintaining a strong posture and balance. Who knows maybe your dancing skills with your soccer ball will translate to your moves on the dance floor!??
2. Cone Drills
The classic drill of dribbling through cones has been around for a while and there is a reason for it, it works! With a partner work on dribbling through cones that are 2-3 yards apart. Work on cutting the corners tight and getting through the cones fast. When you finish pass the ball to your partner and they will try and beat your time.
3. Dribble with Defense
Have a partner try and take the ball from you. Essentially a mini game of keep away, this gives you an in-game sense of what it is like when a defender attempts to steal the ball. Notice the defender’s tactics to steal as you maintain possession. Ask yourself is he lunging more with his right or left foot? Can you change pace to evade your partner? Then switch roles. Playing defense on the ball can help you notice effective ways to dribble when you have possession.
