Nike Soccer Tip: Scoring penalty kicks
Lining up to take a penalty kick can trigger all sorts of butterflies. Here are three tips to help you score!
- Going into a penalty with the right frame of mind can make all the difference. Confidence in your training results in confidence when you line up to take the kick. With confidence your chances of scoring increase.
- Practice penalties in a fatigued state. Taking reps at the end of training when you are tired teaches you how to focus and refocus. It is important to practice like you play and simulate in game feelings, so when the game is on the line you put the ball in the back of the net.
- Aim low! Often kicks that aim high will sail the cage or miss wide. If you aim low, you give yourself room for error. If your ball does ending up sailing a little high it still has a good chance of getting past the keeper.
