Zoe Varela Beltz

Zoe Varela Beltz is the Head Varsity Volleyball Coach at Helix Charter High School.

Zoe is in her second season as Head Varsity Volleyball Coach at Helix Charter High School. In the 2022 season, Zoe was able to guide the team to second place in the State Playoffs for the Southern California DIII Section. For two years, she coached JV volleyball at Mt. Carmel High School and assisted the varsity team. Previously, she was a Varsity head coach at Scotts Valley High School, Varsity head coach at San Lorenzo Valley High School and JV head coach at Fremont High School.

Zoe was raised in Santa Cruz, California and played for the City Beach Volleyball Club where she earned a 2nd place finish at the Junior National Tournament Open Division in 2004. She attended Presentation High School in San Jose, California where she earned first-team all-league honors for the West Coast Catholic League and was named Most Valuable Player for her team her Sophomore year. Zoe also competed in softball where she helped her club team to a first-place finish at the Western Nationals Tournament.

She continued her volleyball career in Pocatello, Idaho for the Division I school, Idaho State University. After two productive seasons, Zoe chose to transfer to beautiful Point Loma Nazarene University. At PLNU, she continued to pursue volleyball and became a middle blocker/right side hitter for the Sea Lions. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Liberal Studies with a focus in English and has a masters in education.

Zoe has been coaching girls volleyball for over ten years. She has coached all ages from 8-18 and has coached middle school, high school, and club volleyball. Zoe has served as a coach at the Marv Dunphy Camp at Pepperdine University where she worked with Olympic coaches and staff. She has coached for the Mountain View Volleyball Club (14s & 15s), Main Beach Volleyball Club (18s), Solana Beach Volleyball Club(13s & 14s), and Valley Style(16s).

Zoe is passionate about teaching and coaching young players to reach their potential as athletes and young adults. She loves to watch players grow throughout their athletic careers and enjoys all aspects of coaching volleyball; from teaching the basics of passing and serving, to teaching the foundational skills to be successful at a highly competitive level. Zoe currently lives in Pacific Beach with her husband and two kids, Belen and Diego.
