Head Coach Linda Garza
Linda Garza has been named head coach of the Nevada softball program, Director of Athletics Doug Knuth announced on July 2, 2021.View Linda's Bio ⟩
Garza, the sixth head coach in program history, comes to Nevada after spending the previous five seasons as head coach at Fresno State.
At Fresno State, Garza compiled a 161-82 record with 21 Mountain West all-conference selections, 12 NFCA All-Region honorees, three postseason appearances, including two NCAA Tournaments, two Mountain West Pitcher of the Year recipients, two Mountain West Freshman of the Year awardees, one Mountain West Player of the Year recipient, one 2021 USA Top 25 Player of the Year watch list selection, one 2019 Shutt Sports NFCA Freshman of the Year Top 25 honoree, and one Mountain West title.
Prior to Fresno State, she spent four seasons as head coach at UC Riverside, winning 39 and 32 games in 2015 and 2016, respectively. After taking over at UC Riverside in 2012, Garza took a program that went 13-33 in 2011 to a 39-17 record, a 14th-best ERA (2.13) in the country and program-best RPI ranking of 70 in 2015. She registered the program’s first back-to-back 30-win seasons since the Highlanders joined the Big West in 2002. She coached over 10 All-Big West student-athletes, three NFCA all-region performers, and back-to-back 20-game winning pitchers in 2015-16.
Before taking over at UC Riverside, Garza served as associate head coach at Cal Poly from 2010-12, head coach at Wright State from 2009-10, and an assistant coach at Purdue (2005-09), Tulsa (2004-05) and Arkansas (2002-04).
While at Cal Poly, Garza coached the outfield and assisted with hitting, the infield and day-to-day operations of the program.
As head coach at Wright State in 2010, she guided the Raiders to the Horizon League Tournament title, advancing to the NCAA Tournament. Wright State also set single-season program records in hits (538), walks (148) and stolen bases (150).
During her tenure as assistant coach at Purdue, she helped the Boilermakers reach 30-plus wins in each of her four seasons.
Garza began her coaching career as a student assistant at UNLV following a standout playing career for the Rebels from 1998-2001. As a four-year starter, she recorded a .262 career batting average and All-MW accolades while earning a spot in the program’s top 10 in doubles, hits, walks and sacrifices. In addition, she received four All-MW academic honors.
Garza earned her bachelor’s degree in school health education with a minor in athletic coaching and physical education in 2002. Garza graduated with her master’s degree in kinesiology in 2009 from Texas Woman’s University.
Assistant Coach/Camp Director Nathan Ohta
Ohta, a former Western Baptist University basketball player will be managing outfield, catching, and hitting for the Pack.View Nathan's Bio ⟩
Prior to Nevada, Ohta was the head softball coach of Warner Pacific University, where he took the team to the 2021 Cascade Conference Tournament while managing all the aspects of the program, such as recruiting, game management, fundraising, and player development.
Nathan Ohta has also previously worked as an assistant coach at George Fox University, where he helped the 2018 team become an NWC Champion, NCAA Regional Berth, and National statistical leader HR/game.
As a head coach at Corban University, Ohta made six CCC tournament appearances and two NAIA tournaments. In the meantime, Coach Ohta coached 13 CCC Gold Glove Winners, five NAIA All-Americans, 36 CCC All-Conference award winners.
A native from Mulino, Oregon, Nathan Ohta has graduated from Western Baptist University with a Bachelor of Science in both Mathematics and Mathematics Education before receiving an M.S. in Education with an emphasis in curriculum and instruction from Corban University.
Assistant Coach Marina Denmore
A native of Vancouver, British Colombia, Demore joins Garza coaching staff after spending a season at Northern Kentucky University serving as a pitching coach.View Marina's Bio ⟩
Coach Demore also served as a graduate student manager at Fresno State from 2018-2020, where she focused on day-to-day softball operations, game and practice analytics, served as the pre and post-game video manager, and assisted with facility and game management.
Prior to Fresno State, Demore worked as a Volunteer Coach under Coach Garza at University of California, Riverside in 2016, and was an Assistant Coach at Loyola University Chicago in 2015.
A former softball student-athlete at Oregon State, Demore helped her team to back-to-back NCAA regionals in 2012 and 2013. As a member of Team Canada, Demore participated in the 2013 Pan American Games, placing second in the rankings.
Demore earned a Bachelor's degree from Oregon State in biology in 2014, and continued her academic career in Fresno State, earning a Master's degree in kinesiology.
Instruction will focus primarily on hitting, specific position fielding, base-running, and game situations. In addition, pitchers will have the opportunity to work with pitching instructors. You can expect high demand on these first-come-first-serve camper spots, so please be sure to register early.

INSTRUCTION & FACILITY
Ratio: 1:10 staff to camper ratio
Groupings: Campers are initially grouped by age and moved around accordingly based on skill level.
Facility: Outdoor Fields. Indoor facilities are available during inclement weather conditions.

Most camps have an athletic trainer on-site to help with illness or injury. In case of an emergency, campers will be transported to the nearest hospital.
Nike Softball Camps does not provide transportation from airports, train stations or bus depots. If you have a child flying to camp, please arrange a shuttle or taxi service.
If you have a group of campers registering for the same camp, each camper is eligible for a discount. Please have someone contact the US Sports Camps office at 1-800-645-3226 with the names of each camper in the group and we will create a unique discount code for your group. Campers may then register individually through the website at their convenience and apply the offer code during checkout. *Discount amount varies by program. Please call for details.
