How to improve your bat speed by Coach Perry

Baseball Bat Speed

Bat speed can be incredibly important. A lot of bat speed has to do with strength and practice. “One of the most sure-fire ways to improve bat speed is to put in time in the weight room, dedication to improving your strength will help to increase bat speed" says Nike Camp Director CJ Perry. See below for the 4 ways Washington baseball players at Whitworth increase bat speed and power:

  1. Weight room workouts
  2. Use weighted bats
  3. Do bat speed races during tee work
  4. Emphasize intent with our swings

The weight room can be the most productive way to build a baseball player's strength. "This is a part of training that cannot be overlooked" says Coach Perry. Hitting the weights and building muscle mass is the stepping stone to improving your bat speed. The drills listed above are great ways for little league and high school baseball players to improve bat speed and power.

Always emphasize taking quality swings and improving each day. Learn more baseball tips and improve your bat speed this summer at Nike Baseball Camp Whitworth University.
