Field Hockey Tip: Reverse Hit
Mastering the reverse hit could be the key to scoring your next goal. Check out this field hockey tip presented by Nike Camp Director Vianney Yamada.
Tip #1: It is crucial to be intentional with your setup and follow through with this shot.
The Set-Up: Start with your right foot forward and in line with the ball, drop your back knee and get low. This position should allow you to get your field hockey stick almost flat to the ground.
Once you’re in position, drag your stick towards the ball aiming to make contact at the sweet spot. The flat side of your stick should be facing up. Finish the movement with a strong follow-through.
Tip #2: One option for executing the reverse hit is using the “C” swing. To perform this swing, bring your elbow back and your stick up towards your ear, as you start your swing you want to create a “C” and follow through by making contact with your stick parallel to the ground.
Tip #3: Another option to execute the reverse hit is to swing without creating the “C” this time and follow through the same as before. Try both swings and decide what feels most comfortable to you!
Bonus Tip: Avoid hitting under the ball. This hit is not a chip and you do not want the ball to pop up.
