Professional Sports Soccer Camp Throggs Neck, New York
The Professional Sports Soccer Camp at SUNY Maritime College was established to provide young soccer players with the opportunity to improve their skills in a fun structured environment.
With a qualified experienced coaching staff led by John Harrington former professional player and qualified F.A. coach. Our aim is to ensure that players of all levels achieve their goals and maintain their love of the game.
Highlights Include
- Drills - Drills are used to teach campers the skills necessary to succeed and the notion of teamwork. Instructional
- Games - We want every moment of the week to be a learning experience for every camper. It is for this reason that during games, if a camper makes a mistake or does not execute properly, one of our coaches will show him what he did wrong and how to do it right.
- Individual Instructions - Our camp is known for offering that personal touch and giving the individual attention some campers may need to truly learn and understand the game more thoroughly.
- Teach To Understand - We want every camper to understand the reasoning behind the methods we use. It is for this reason that our coaches take the time to explain the reasoning behind why you execute a certain way.
- Lectures - Lectures are given on the fundamentals of the game. Position Play - During the week all positions will be covered by our staff.
Maritime College is located on a 55-acre scenic waterfront property on the outskirts of New York City on the Throggs Neck peninsula. Fort Schuyler houses the Stephen B. Luce Library, Maritime Industry Museum, and the Center for Simulation and Marine Operations, including a Bridge Simulator, Electronics Navigation, and the Radar Simulator. The Fort is flanked by modern dining halls, residence halls, lecture halls, recreational and athletic facilities, and science and engineering laboratories.
Vincent Carlesi
Vinny is Director of Operations for Professional Sports Camps. Has been directing the operation for the past 23 years. The active director of our Adelphi University and Lawrenceville Camps. Former Division I player with Pace University. Former scout for the Montreal Expos.
John Harrington
Head soccer instructor at the Professional Sports Soccer Camp is John Harrington. John is a qualified English F.A. coach who is currently training youth teams on Long Island. He played in England at St. Mary's College, Cleveland Football Club and more recently in the States for the Long Island Stars/Hercules in the Atlantic Professional Soccer Conference. John has worked with the Professional Sports Soccer Camp for the past 19 years.
During the week all aspects of soccer will be covered. The morning sessions will consist of individual skills ranging from precision passing to power shooting. The afternoon will entail tactics and games that emphasize the importance of teamwork. Overnight campers will have the benefit of an evening session where the emphasis is on games and competition.
Professional Sports Camps has been operating sports camps since 1946. In fact, we are one of the pioneers in running sports camps. The camp was originated by Lou Haneles. Mr. Haneles love of sports instilled in him a desire to operate a camp where athletes could not only come and learn the fundamentals of each sport, but a place where they could also enjoy themselves as well. Since 1980 the camp has been run by the Carlesi family. The Carlesi's consider all their campers and staff an extended family and conducts the camp with traditional family values.
Since 1946 tens of thousands of campers have passed through our doors. Over the years we have had the satisfaction of seeing our former campers make their town league, high school and college teams, with some even advancing into professional sports.
Experience and trust are two factors that cannot be overlooked when exploring a camp for your child. Our experience in running sports camps is second to none. Over the years, thousands of parents have trusted us to not only teach their chidren, but also with their well being.
No camp, or business for that matter, would be around for this amount of time unless we were doing something right. We look foward to having the honor and privilege of showing you and your child what a great experience professional sports camps can be.
Sample Daily Schedule
- 7 a.m. Wake Up
- 7:30 a.m. Breakfast
- 9:00 a.m. Day Campers Arrive/Stretching Exercises

- 1:00 p.m. Tactics/Drills/Games
- 3:30 p.m. Recreational Time (Game Room)
- 4:00 p.m. Day Campers Depart
- 4:30 p.m. Dinner
- 6:00 p.m. Games/Competitions
- 8:30 p.m. Recreational Time (Game Room, Movies, Contests)
- 10:00 p.m. Bed Check/Lights Out
Resident Campers
• Report to the New Dorm dormitory building between 12:00 PM – 2:00 PM on Sunday afternoon.
• Departure is on Thursday, preferably at 4:00 PM, but no later than 6 PM.
Day Campers
• Report to the New Dorm dormitory building for registration on Sunday between 12:00 PM – 2:00 PM.
• Campers should be dropped off between 8:30 AM – 9:00 AM daily and picked up between 3:45 PM – 4:00 PM each day.
• Parents or guardians must come into the dormitory building to sign campers in and out each day.
**Special arrangements can be made to drop off your child earlier than 8:30 AM and pick him/her up later than 4 PM at no additional cost.
