Nike Junior Golf Camps
Our junior golf camps in Santa Rosa, CA are suited for golfers, ages 5- 10, of all skill levels. Join our staff of teaching pros, led by Sonoma State Head Coach, Val Verhunce, for a week of great golf instruction and fun!
Half Day Camps
These programs include 15 total hours of range instruction and are designed to create interest and foster development in golfers of all abilities. Strong emphasis is placed on the fundamentals—stance, grip, posture, full swing, rules & etiquette, etc. As the week unfolds, campers receive quality short-game instruction and by Friday, each Nike junior golfer will see improvement in his or her golf game!

Camp Director Val Verhunce
Val Verhunce is the founding head coach of the Sonoma State men’s golf program. He has been head coach of the women’s team, as well, since its inception in 2007-08.View Val Verhunce's Bio ⟩
Verhunce has led the men's program to eight NCAA Regional appearances and five NCAA Championship appearances, coaching five student-athletes to 11 All-American honors, including one who earned the Jack Nicklaus National Player of the Year award twice in his career (Jarin Todd).
On the women's side, Verhunce has guided the Seawolves to five NCAA Regional qualifications and one NCAA Championship showing, as well as coaching a four-time All-American in Spencer Heller, who was just the third student-athlete in the history of Sonoma State to earn the All-America distinction four times.
A PGA Professional with 20+ years of experience and a Class 'A' member of the Professional Golfers Association of America, Verhunce has supported golfers in realizing their goals along with providing them with a high level of motivation.
At Nike Junior Golf Camps we accommodate all skill levels; the junior player just discovering the game, the high school player trying to move up on the team, and the tournament level junior looking to improve his or her tournament results. A detailed camper registration packet containing check in location, health/release forms, emergency contact info, and a list of things to bring will be emailed to all registered campers in the spring.
Sample Daily Schedule
- 8:50am Check-in
- 9:00am Staff demonstrations/safety discussions
- 9:15am Instruction - practice on skills and fundamentals; grip, stance, posture, pitching, putting, bunker play and full swing
- 12:00pm Campers depart
Bennett Valley Golf Course
Bennett Valley Golf Course (BVGC) opened in 1969 and is located at the base of Bennett Peak, where Matanzas Creek meanders throughout the tree-lined course. Native oak, redwood and pine trees enhance the course’s beauty and create a classic, natural setting. The par 72, 6,500 yard course (from the tips) is considered one of best maintained in the area. BVGC also features a driving range with both natural grass and artificial mats, as well as a large practice putting green.
