Camp Director Bill Pilat
In his 28th season on the Roanoke College sidelines, Bill Pilat has accumulated nearly 68-percent of the men’s lacrosse wins in school history.View Bill Pilat's Bio & Lacrosse Tips ⟩
A 1985 graduate of the college, Pilat has won 302 games in his head coaching career. Pilat is the winningest coach in program-history, winning all but 162 games in the program's nearly 50-years of existence. His win 70% win percentage is also the best in the history of the ODAC.
Coach Pilat earned his 300th career win on April 19th, becoming the 15th men's lacrosse coach in all of NCAA Divisions I, II or III to accomplish that milestone. During his tenure as coach, Pilat has led the team to 10 ODAC Championships and now 12 NCAA Tournament appearances after appearing in the NCAA Tournament yet again in the 2015 season. The Maroons finished the season with its program record setting seventh consecutive 10-win season.
Pilat is an integral part of Roanoke’s lacrosse excellence both as a player and a coach. As a player, Pilat was a three-time All-American, two-time ODAC Player of the Year, and the 1985 Roanoke Male Athlete of the Year. Also in 1985, Pilat received the C. Markland Kelly Award and the Hero’s Award as the nation’s top goaltender. With 710 collegiate saves, he has 29 more stops than any other keeper in school history. In addition to leading the program in career saves, Pilat has also coached six of the nine other players ranked in the top 10 all-time saves list at the school. Three of those goalies have earned All-American status.
In addition to coaching and recruiting, Pilat has been very active in the lacrosse community. A former member of the Division III Advisory and All-American committees, he has served as the president of both the ODAC and Division III Coaches associations. He has been the chairman of the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association’s Century Club and was a member of the U.S. World Lacrosse Team player selection committee. His talks at the annual national lacrosse conventions have drawn interest from coaches throughout the country. Pilat is also one of the nation’s most recognizable summer camp directors, running several camps in Virginia, Florida, Connecticut, Ohio, and New York. The Bill Pilat Goalie School is regarded as the nation’s best camp for goalies. Pilat’s latest venture is a new goalie video aimed at improving the skills and fundementals of both novice and advanced keepers. In five years on the market, Pilat’s video has sold over 3,000 copies.
Pilat graduated cum laude from Roanoke in 1985 and earned a master’s degree from Alfred University in education in 1986. While at Alfred, he served as a graduate assistant with the Saxons’ lacrosse program. Pilat spent the 1987 season as a member of the Washington & Lee University staff, helping the Generals to a national semifinal appearance, before returning to Roanoke as an assistant in 1988.

Loved Every Part of Camp!
June 25, 2018: He really enjoyed the school, enjoyed the instruction, and enjoyed the goalie games. There wasn't anything that he didn't like - which was really good to hear.
— Linda B. Parent0
Had a great time!
July 16, 2017: My son had a great time meeting the other goalies and bonding with them for the few days they were at camp. The drills really helped him better understand the position. We already had experience with Nick Peck as my son's head coach this past year and with private lessons we have taken with Nick. The camp helped reinforce the importance of the different drills that all goalie coaches use to train their goalies.

Had an absolute blast!
June 22, 2017: This was my son's first year at the camp. He was one of the younger boys there and we really appreciate how the other campers and staff included him and mentored him. He had an absolute blast.
— Noel F. Parent0
June 29, 2016: My son was the youngest child at camp having just turned 10, the experience was wonderful for him. He learned so much and the other campers were great. His confidence in the goal has increased tremendously, and overall knowledge and abilities have grown from his camp experience. Thank you for offering this camp, he can't wait to participate again next year.

Learned a lot!
June 28, 2016: My son was a beginner going into goalie camp. He said the food was great and liked the facility. The coaches seemed very nice and encouraging when we dropped him off and picked him up. My son thinks he learned a lot, I can't wait to see him in action this coming fall!
— Hayden H. Parent
Pushed us to be the best we can be!
June 25, 2016: On a team the goalie usually doesn't get a lot of attention. This camp was all about goalies and how to get better skills and be smarter on the field. I appreciate that the coaches pushed us to be the best we can be.
— Connor S. Camper
Learned many new techniques!
June 24, 2016: My son truly enjoyed the Goalie Nike Camp at Whitter College this summer. Learned many new techniques, made friends and felt comfortable with the staff. Being able to meet so many people who shared a passion for goalie was great for my son. He will be back again!
— Brice L. Parent
June 27, 2015: I just wanted to tell you that my child attended your Goalie School laws week and it was by far the best camp ever! I promise we have spent a lot of money on camps and private lessons and they learned so much at your camp. Most camps simply don't focus enough on goalie instruction! This was by far the best choice and investment we have ever made in our childs future as a goalie.
— Robert D. Parent
June 25, 2015: Just a quick note of thanks to you and your staff for an excellent camp session. Your lax camp’s reputation is well deserved. My son really enjoyed it and learned a great deal.
