    James "JD" Harkey is the Director & Head Coach of Lacrosse at Spire Academy. A Virginia native, Harkey played midfield for the UMBC Retrievers from 2007 to 2011 under the tutelage of Hall of Fame coach Don Zimmerman.

2025 OVERVIEW 2-WEEK SUMMER EXTENDED TRAINING
  • Dates: June 15-27
  • Age Group: 13-18
  • Gender: Boys
  • Camp Type: Overnight, Day (Commuter)
  • Check-in: Overnight Campers check in on Sunday, June 15 between 5:00-5:30pm. Day Campers check-in on Monday, June 16 between 8:30am-9:00am.
  • Check-out: Camp concludes on Friday, June 27 at 12:00pm. Day campers depart each day at 5:00pm.
  • Day Schedule: 9:00am-5:00pm
  • Meals: All meals provided for Overnight Campers. Lunch provided each day for Day Campers.
  • Programs: This intensive 2-week experience is designed for aspiring lacrosse players looking to develop their skills, athleticism, and competitive edge at an advanced level. Train under elite coaches in a professional-grade environment, with daily sessions focusing on skill development, team strategy, and performance training. Create healthy training habits and learn to apply new skills to your game, giving you the tools to compete at a higher level. Training will focus on key skills including stick handling, passing accuracy, shooting techniques, defensive positioning, face-offs, ground ball control, and game IQ. In addition to sport, performance, and mental skills training, campers will take part in nightly group activities as well as an off-campus excursion over the weekend.

Designed for players who are new to the sport or looking to advance their abilities, this camp provides a supportive and engaging environment to learn and improve.   • Program: Specifically designed for advanced players, this camp offers an intense and focused environment to perfect technique, refine strategy, and elevate performance. Led by top-tier coaches, training sessions emphasize advanced stick skills, shooting precision, face-off mastery, defensive tactics, and situational play. Players will also dive into advanced team strategies, game analysis, and position-specific training. Off the field, performance training will enhance speed, agility, and endurance, ensuring athletes are prepared to compete at their peak. 2025 HOUSING
  • Dorm: SPIRE Village
  • Number of Campers Per Room: 2 per room
  • Roommates: Rooms are assigned by age & roommate requests. Roommate requests must be mutual and received no later than 14 days before the start of camp. If you don't have a roommate request, you will be placed in a room with someone near your age. It will be a great opportunity to meet someone new!
  • Bathrooms: Shared
  • Linens: Not included. Bring linens or sleeping bag, pillow, pillowcase, and a towel.
  • Air Conditioning: YES - Dorm has A/C

SUPERVISION
The staff reside in the dormitories with the campers and participate in all activities. Drugs, alcohol and tobacco are strictly prohibited, and constitute, along with general misconduct, grounds for dismissal from camp without a refund.

WHAT'S INCLUDED IN THE FEE?
  • Instruction: Morning, afternoon, and evening training sessions
  • Overnight campers: Dormitory housing on campus and all meals are provided.
  • Extended Day campers: Lunch and dinner are provided.
  • Supervision: Staff members reside in campers’ quarters and participate in all activities.

INSTRUCTION, EQUIPMENT & FACILITY
  • Ratio: 1:10 staff-to-camper ratio
  • Groupings: Campers are grouped by age, ability, and experience per the director's discretion.
  • Equipment Needed: Please bring your helmet, mouthpiece, cleats, lacrosse stick, gloves, and pads.
  • Facility: SPIRE Athletic Fields
  • Medical Protocol: Most camps have an athletic trainer on-site to help with illness or injury. In case of an emergency, campers will be transported to the nearest hospital.

DAY CAMPERS

Checklist of Things to Bring: We recommend that all Day Campers bring a daily pack with the following items: swimsuit, swim cap, goggles, towel, sunglasses, hat, sunscreen, sandals, water bottle, dry land gear (running shoes, t-shirt, athletic shorts, sweatshirt) and any other appropriate clothing for that day’s activities which will be described to you on the first day of camp.

Camp Schedule & Meals: 9:00am-5:00pm; Lunch is provided.

TRANSPORTATION

Unless you are a Boarding Plus Camper, transportation is not provided. Campers are responsible for getting to and from camp on their own. There is no supervision before or after camp hours so please make arrangements to pick up your child on time.
