    James "JD" Harkey is the Director & Head Coach of Lacrosse at Spire Academy. A Virginia native, Harkey played midfield for the UMBC Retrievers from 2007 to 2011 under the tutelage of Hall of Fame coach Don Zimmerman.

You can expect a high demand on these first-come-first-serve camper spots, so please be sure to register early. SPIRE’S training program is perfect for serious swimmers looking for an intense training environment to prepare for the next level of competition. SPIRE Academy is one of the most unique and comprehensive Athletic, Academic, Personal and Career Development organizations in the world. Every year, athletes from around the world choose to train at SPIRE Academy.

  • Programs: Focus on all aspects of your game with our 5-Day Spring Break Camps. Take time to gain valuable instruction from SPIRE Head Coach, JD Harkey and his coaching staff. Take part in drills to improve your decision-making skills and ability to apply the new skills you learn to bring your game to an elite level. Develop your physical & mental toughness with training sessions in Performance Training and Mental Skills.

  • Meals: All meals are provided to Boarding campers. Day (commuter) campers only receive lunch. Allergies and dietary restrictions can be accommodated.
  • Program: Develop your lacrosse skills with professional coaching from Director & Head Coach of SPIRE Lacrosse, JD Harkey. Receive individual and group instruction to sharpen areas of your game like shooting, stick handling, positioning and team tactics. Work with our Performance Training Team to implement an off-field training plan to add strength, speed, agility and flexibility to your game. Experience life as a SPIRE Academy student athlete by training in our world class athletic facilities and gaining valuable lessons on taking your lacrosse game to a new level. Boarding and Day Camper options are available.

  • Number of Campers Per Room: 2 per room
  • Roommates: Rooms are assigned by age & roommate requests. Roommate requests must be mutual and received no later than 14 days before the start of camp. If you don't have a roommate request, you will be placed in a room with someone near your age. It will be a great opportunity to meet someone new!
  • Bathrooms: Shared
  • Linens: Not included. Bring linens or sleeping bag, pillow, pillowcase, and a towel.
  • Air Conditioning: YES - Dorm has A/C

The staff reside in the dormitories with the campers and participate in all activities. Drugs, alcohol and tobacco are strictly prohibited, and constitute, along with general misconduct, grounds for dismissal from camp without a refund.

  • Instruction: Morning, afternoon, and evening training sessions
  • Overnight campers: Dormitory housing on campus and all meals are provided.
  • Extended Day campers: Lunch and dinner are provided.
  • Supervision: Staff members reside in campers’ quarters and participate in all activities.
  • Reversible Jersey & Prizes: SPIRE Camps T-Shirt
  • Ratio: 1:10 staff-to-camper ratio
  • Groupings: Campers are grouped by age, ability, and experience.
  • Equipment Needed: Please bring your helmet, mouthpiece, cleats, lacrosse stick, gloves, and pads.
  • Facility: SPIRE Athletic Fields
  • Medical Protocol: Most camps have an athletic trainer on-site to help with illness or injury. In case of an emergency, campers will be transported to the nearest hospital.

Checklist of Things to Bring: We recommend that all Day Campers bring a daily pack with the following items: swimsuit, swim cap, goggles, towel, sunglasses, hat, sunscreen, sandals, water bottle, dry land gear (running shoes, t-shirt, athletic shorts, sweatshirt) and any other appropriate clothing for that day’s activities which will be described to you on the first day of camp.

Camp Schedule & Meals: 9:00am-5:00pm; Lunch is provided.


Unless you are a Boarding Plus Camper, transportation is not provided. Campers are responsible for getting to and from camp on their own. There is no supervision before or after camp hours so please make arrangements to pick up your child on time.
